MOSY-KRG
A total of 800 young people from all over Kurdistan participated in the Region's first ever summer camp organised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth (MOSY).
The summer camp was designed to give young people aged 18 to 30 an opportunity to network, exchange ideas and learn new skills through courses and seminars. Following the success of this first camp, MOSY has decided to organise one ever year. The camp was held for a month in the beautiful mountainous area of Dêreluk in Amêdi, Duhok province. Volunteers provided several courses and activities including English, computer studies, mountain climbing, swimming, canoeing and football.
MOSY organised regular seminars on gender and environmental politics, language and literature, the role of young people and their future prospects. Attending the camp as guest speakers were representatives from the KRG and the ministries of education, health, labour and social affairs, and the environment.
Mr Taha Barwary, the Minister for Sport and Youth, said, "MOSY would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants for helping to make the project a great success, and looks forward to facilitating other enriching experiences for young people in the future."
The young campers also visited historically and culturally important sites and cities in the Kurdistan Region. This was the first chance for many to broaden their horizons and see places outside their home communities.
