THE BUXOM AMERICAN with the green eyes and bottle-blond locks couldn’t have looked, or felt, more out of place. That’s why Charlotte Mann would describe herself right then as both wary and downright giddy. It was the middle of the night, full moon glow, and here was this 50-year-old lady with her camera and that disarming smile flashing at the guards on a Turkish road into Iraqi Kurdistan, home to some of the proudest puppets in the history of modern imperialism.
